Frequently asked
Why do EV resale values vary so widely?
Three drivers: battery technology generation, brand demand and over-the-air software support. Models with active OTA roadmaps (Tesla, BYD, Hyundai/Kia E-GMP) hold value better than first-gen platforms.
Does battery degradation tank resale?
Yes. Used buyers now demand a state-of-health (SoH) certificate. Cars with verified >88% SoH at 5 years sell at a 12–18% premium over uncertified equivalents.
Are EVs depreciating faster than petrol cars?
On average yes (1–3 year window), but the gap is closing. Strong-residual EVs (Tesla, BYD, Porsche Taycan) now match or beat equivalent petrol cars after year 3.
Is now a good time to buy used?
Used EV transaction prices fell ~22% YoY in the UK in 2025 and ~15% in the EU. Year 3 trade-ins are at historic low prices — strong window for buyers, painful for early adopters.
