Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the questions we get most often. Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch.

Is EV Charge Routes free to use?+
Yes. Searching chargers, planning routes, checking vehicle compatibility and comparing charging costs are all completely free. You don't need an account to use the core tools.
Where does the charging station data come from?+
We aggregate live station data from Open Charge Map and operator feeds across the UK, Australia, France and Italy. Coverage, pricing and connector types are refreshed regularly, and every station page lets you report an issue if something looks wrong.
How accurate are the charging speeds shown?+
Speeds (kW) reflect the maximum the station hardware supports. Your real-world speed depends on your vehicle, battery state of charge, temperature and whether you're sharing the cabinet with another car. We show both the station's max kW and your vehicle's max DC kW on compatible station pages.
Which countries do you cover?+
We currently cover the United Kingdom, Australia, France and Italy with dedicated country, region and station pages. More countries are on the roadmap.
Do I need an account to plan a route?+
No — route planning, charger search and compatibility checks work without an account. An account lets you save stations, get email reminders, and sync preferences across devices.
How do you choose which chargers to show along a route?+
Our route planner samples your polyline every ~50 km, queries Open Charge Map within a 30 km radius of each sample, and re-filters candidates to only stations whose perpendicular distance to your route is 30 km or less. The result is a list of viable detours, not just chargers near the start and end.
Can I trust the pricing information?+
Pricing is a best-effort estimate. Many networks change tariffs frequently and some require an app/RFID for the listed price. Always confirm the live price at the charger or in the operator's app before you start a session.
How do I report a broken or closed station?+
Open any station detail page and use the 'Report an issue' button. Reports are reviewed within 48 hours and used to update the database.
Do you sell my personal data?+
No. See our Privacy Policy for the full details on what we collect, why, and how to exercise your UK/EU GDPR or Australian Privacy Act rights.
I'm a charging network — can we partner?+
Yes. Email hello@evchargeroutes.com for partnership, data-sharing and sponsorship enquiries.
